With the increase in technologies, the governments and corporations can easily access our online activities. The current privacy laws, give the government authority to monitor our activities. In addition, they have given corporations a go ahead of collecting our information that they use for their own good. As a result, we are deprived our right to privacy, thereby limiting our freedom of speech, association and religion. The ACLU is in the process of promoting a future where civil liberties of the people would be protected, people have control over their private data, and collection of personal information is limited. The other side would say that access to personal information may help the governments to help curb online crimes such as cyber-bullying. I found the article interesting as it helped me to realize that compromising internet privacy limits the extent of freedom of speech, association, and threatens the free exercise of religion.

In the recent years, companies have developed strategies that are aimed at increasing the organizational efficiency and productivity. However, such measures end up violating the employees’ privacy. For instance, organizations have increased the levels of workplace electronic surveillance that often limit the freedom of employees and infringe their right of privacy. The ACLU is constantly ensuring that the employers provide their employees privacy. It challenges organizations that violate employees’ privacy through unwarranted drug testing, surveillance and lifestyle discrimination. The other side would say that acts such as electronic surveillance do more good than harm, since they help organizations improve their productivity and efficiency. It was interesting to learn that even justified action such as electronic surveillance can violate peoples’ rights.
